Abstract: Many physical and biological systems exhibit multirate and multiscale dynamics, often across several orders of magnitute in scale. Hence, a single numerical method may not be sufficient to capture all scales and a hybrid approach may be more effective, integrating from the molecular, to the mesoscopic and continuum scale. In this talk
a review of the field will be presented with several examples from modeling soft matter but also biomedical problems. This work is developed at the Collaboratory on Mathematics for Mesoscopic Modeling of Materials (CM4) directed by the speaker. CM4 consists of six participating Universities and two US national laboratories and it is supported by the Department of Energy in USA.
